Johnny and Matt De Voe: A Story of Friendship and Collaboration
Johnny’s journey began with a deep passion for helping others and a love for travel,
nurtured by family ties to the beautiful landscapes of Virginia. Summers spent at family
reunions in the Breaks Interstate Park were formative, igniting his appreciation for
nature and community.
Throughout high school, he was guided by inspiring teachers and coaches, notably one
who ventured beyond the classroom to take Johnny white water rafting and caving near
Pittsburgh, broadening his horizons. Recognizing that many in his neighborhood had
never left the state, Johnny dedicated himself to experiences that would shape his
future.
His professional journey led him to the Columbus Zoo, where he embraced the chance
to travel and engage with wildlife like never before. Collaborating with renowned figures
such as Jack Hanna and Jarod Miller, he made media appearances on programs like
Good Morning America, Late Night with David Letterman, and Conan O’Brien, sharing
his passion for conservation and animal welfare.
With over 20 years of experience in various roles from Columbus, Ohio, to Newport
Aquarium and Young Williams Animal Center in Knoxville, Johnny has actively
participated in education programs that emphasize animal welfare, conservation, and
community service. His endeavors have always been rooted in the joy of helping both
animals and people.
He continues to volunteer with the WAVE Foundation and maintains connections
through his Mace Club fraternity from Muskingum University, striving to make a
difference wherever he can. Johnny’s life is a testament to the belief that true fulfillment
comes from supporting others and sharing a love for the natural world.
